AMD Ryzen 5 5600

A modest AM4 refresh for someone who can keep the surrounding components.

The decision

The six-core 5600 can make sense when an AM4 board, DDR4 and a graphics card are already part of the plan. Compare the saving against the work you need completed; buying a new board purely to use this CPU can change the value calculation.

Consider it when

  • An inexpensive update to a supported older AM4 desktop.
  • A graphics-card-based system used for everyday work and games with checked CPU requirements.

Look again when

  • A GPU-free office build, or a machine whose workloads repeatedly saturate six cores.

The checks that can change your choice

Do not confuse 5600 with 5600G or GT

The plain 5600 requires a discrete graphics card. A similar number on the box does not imply the integrated-display capabilities of the G and GT variants.

Check board support before buying

Use the precise 5600 entry in the board vendor CPU list and retain the old CPU until the firmware procedure is finished. Confirm that any reused cooler has the correct AM4 mounting parts.
