Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB

Gen5 storage for a workflow that can use the link

The decision

The 9100 PRO 2TB belongs in a build where storage throughput is an identified limitation and the board can provide a suitable Gen5 x4 link. Buying it for a generic gaming list does not establish a noticeable benefit over a capable Gen4 drive. Compare capacity, cooling and source/destination transfer limits before paying for interface capability that the rest of the system cannot use.

Consider it when

  • A throughput-focused workload with a documented Gen5 SSD slot and appropriate cooling.

Look again when

  • The intended socket is Gen4 or shared in a way that defeats the required bandwidth.

The checks that can change your choice

BW is the version without Samsung’s integrated heatsink

MZ-VAP2T0BW is distinct from the CW heatsink variant. Plan a suitable motherboard or alternative SSD heatsink and airflow, and check its clearance under the graphics card. The Gen5 SSD slot may share resources with USB or graphics, depending on the exact board.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.

Capacity is manufacturer decimal capacity. Check the exact SKU, M.2 slot protocol, lane sharing and cooling requirements; regional availability is not guaranteed. Gen5 bandwidth needs a compatible Gen5 slot; use appropriate cooling and airflow. This is the BW model without Samsung integrated heatsink, not the CW variant.
