MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI
The B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI is an ATX AM5 board with two NVMe sockets. It is worth comparing by the connections you will actually use, especially when a graphics card and several drives are coming from an older PC.
Choose it when its storage and expansion layout covers your build. A newer chipset name alone is not a reason to replace it; an occupied socket, missing connection or unsupported firmware is a concrete reason to investigate another board.
Consider it when
- You want an ATX AM5 build with DDR5, integrated wireless networking and no more than two onboard M.2 storage drives.
- You already own this model and want to investigate a supported CPU replacement before buying another motherboard.
Look again when
- Your case accepts only micro-ATX or Mini-ITX, or you intend to keep DDR4.
- You need a third onboard M.2 socket or assume a long secondary PCIe slot supplies a full x16 link.
The checks that can change your choice
Plan both NVMe positions
M2_1 accepts 22110/2280 drives and M2_2 accepts 2280/2260 drives; both support up to PCIe 4.0 x4. MSI notes that Ryzen 8500/8300 processors reduce M2_2 to x2. Identify the CPU and exact drive format before installation.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Check the lower expansion slot
With Ryzen 7000/9000 processors, MSI lists the main graphics slot at up to PCIe 4.0 x16 and the lower long slot at up to x4. Check both the electrical link and whether the installed GPU covers the slot needed by another card.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Read the support entry before a CPU change
Use the CPU support list and BIOS notes for B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI. A general series-support statement cannot confirm the firmware on a particular board. Keep the working CPU available until you know the update procedure.
