Crucial T500 2TB

More project room while staying with a Gen4 storage plan

The decision

The T500 2TB is worth comparing when a 1 TB working drive is cramped but the build does not need a Gen5-specific storage setup. It can keep the operating system and active files on one NVMe device, or serve as a dedicated project drive beside an existing boot SSD. Choose between those layouts based on recoverability and workflow, not an assumption that two drives are automatically faster.

Consider it when

  • A Gen4 desktop needing 2 TB for active projects, games or a second working drive.

Look again when

  • Your workload requires verified sustained performance beyond the evidence available for this configuration.

The checks that can change your choice

Check cooling and the actual second-slot link

CT2000T500SSD8 is the bare 2280 model. A motherboard’s second M.2 socket can have fewer lanes or share connections with other devices, so assign the drive deliberately. Confirm the exact 2 TB variant, thermal-pad contact and firmware before moving important working data.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.
