How to Budget for a PC Build: Parts, Tax and Shipping
Plan a PC build budget that includes the parts, delivery and complete setup, and compare equivalent retailer listings.
A planning target is not a shopping total. Keep a complete list of required items, record comparable quotes, and add delivery and checkout costs before deciding what fits your budget.
Define what the budget includes
Decide whether your target includes the tower only, or also the monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system and delivery. Record each part’s cost in one currency and keep missing prices visible. A subtotal with missing components is not the final build cost.
Compare equivalent listings
Match the exact manufacturer model, memory capacity, revision and new or used condition. A graphics chip name alone does not identify a board model. Check what accessories, mounting kits and cables are included in the listing.
Check the delivered total
Several low-priced parts from different shops may incur several delivery charges. Compare the delivered basket, tax treatment, import costs, return process and warranty region. Switching a display currency does not create a local offer or confirm local availability.
A worked example with hypothetical amounts
Suppose you record USD 900 for all selected tower components, USD 45 for delivery and USD 70 for the tax shown at checkout. The delivered tower total is USD 1,015. A USD 1,000 target is already exceeded before adding a monitor or operating system. These amounts illustrate the calculation only; they are not current offers, a tax rate or a recommended parts budget.
Give each quote enough context
Record the exact model, seller, condition, currency, shipping destination and date beside each price. Keep a separate line for delivery and any checkout charges. Mark a missing item as unquoted rather than zero. Recheck the full basket when you replace a component, because discounts and shipping costs can depend on which items you buy together.

- Record exact new or used listings in one currency.
- Add delivery and the charges shown for your destination.
- Check returns, warranty region and missing prices before placing orders.
