Noctua NH-D15
The NH-D15 needs a three-part fit check: motherboard layout, memory height and the case side panel. The front fan can turn a nominally compatible tower into an installed cooler that is too tall.
Resolve the actual fan arrangement before buying. If the case leaves little height allowance, a cooler that clears the RAM without raising a fan may be a simpler choice than planning around the limit.
Consider it when
- Your case and motherboard have room for a large dual-tower cooler, and you can verify the front-fan position with the exact memory kit.
- You already own the cooler and can confirm the correct mounting kit for the new socket before replacing it unnecessarily.
Look again when
- Your fit calculation uses only an older 165 mm listing and ignores the current manufacturer guidance or the installed fan position.
- You need easy repeated access to tall DIMMs and have not considered the clearance and installation work around the front fan.
The checks that can change your choice
Use the current height, then verify the unit
The current Noctua specifications list 168 mm with fans. Older official material used 165 mm, so RigAtlas retains an unresolved dimension note. Confirm the actual cooler revision and fan arrangement instead of choosing whichever figure makes the case appear to fit.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Account for raising the front fan
Noctua gives 32 mm default RAM clearance. Its worked example raises the front fan by 3 mm for 35 mm memory, taking total height to 171 mm. That exceeds a case limit of 170 mm; use a verified alternative fan arrangement or a different cooler.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Treat single-fan use as a new setup
Noctua documents removing or changing the front fan as clearance options. Those choices change the cooling configuration too. Check temperatures and noise with your CPU load rather than carrying over results from a different fan arrangement.

The current Noctua FAQ gives 168 mm total height with fans and 32 mm standard RAM clearance. Its 35 mm RAM example raises the front fan by 3 mm, for 171 mm total height. The 165 mm figure is retained only from older official material. Confirm the actual cooler revision, fan arrangement and installed height before resolving fit; the old/new discrepancy is unconfirmed.
