Intel Core i5-12400F

A straightforward LGA1700 option when keeping DDR4 and an existing graphics card matters.

The decision

The 12400F can be a sensible inexpensive rebuild if the board and memory are already owned. For a completely new machine, compare the entire basket against an AM5 starting point before committing to an older platform for a low CPU sticker price.

Consider it when

  • A DDR4 reuse project with a compatible LGA1700 motherboard.
  • An everyday or gaming PC that already includes a working discrete GPU.

Look again when

  • A machine expected to boot with only the motherboard display connectors, or work that demonstrably benefits from more CPU threads.

The checks that can change your choice

F means a graphics card is required

The processor has no integrated graphics. Connect the monitor to the discrete GPU; a motherboard HDMI socket cannot create display output for this CPU.

Pick one memory platform

DDR4 and DDR5 support refers to different motherboard designs. Verify the exact board suffix and DIMM type before buying; the two memory types are not interchangeable in a slot.

Published specifications

6 cores / 12 threads; boost up to 4.4 GHz; LGA1700; DDR4-3200 or DDR5-4800 depending on motherboard; maximum turbo power 117 W.
