MSI MAG A550BN
A modest fixed-cable option when the complete build stays modest
The MAG A550BN belongs on a shortlist for a low-demand desktop with an explicitly checked power budget and conventional GPU cabling. Its smaller capacity can be appropriate when the parts support it, but it should not be chosen solely because a planning estimate happens to be below 550 W. Check the actual graphics-card recommendation and realistic upgrade plans before committing.
Consider it when
- An integrated-graphics or modest discrete-GPU build whose documented requirements fit this supply.
Look again when
- A higher-power GPU upgrade is likely or native 16-pin cabling is required.
THE SPACE IT NEEDS
Leave room beyond the PSU body
- PSU body length
- 140mm
The body length excludes the working space needed for plugs and cable bends. Drive cages and the case layout can reduce that space.

The checks that can change your choice
Confirm the harness rather than counting plug ends
The A550BN specification lists two 6+2-pin connectors without proving independent cable runs. It has no recorded native 16-pin cable. Fixed leads also need storage space beyond the 140 mm PSU body, so check the case cage and cable route before selecting a compact enclosure.
Check the whole power path
Compare the CPU and exact graphics card requirements with the PSU capacity and included connector arrangement. Count independent cable runs where the GPU manual requires them. Use only cables approved for this exact power supply; similar-looking modular plugs do not establish compatible wiring.
