The decision

The 990 PRO 1TB is worth comparing for a boot or working drive when the project and game library comfortably fit its capacity. Choosing the premium model while immediately running out of space is a poor trade. Compare a larger mainstream SSD if storage capacity, rather than measured transfer time, is the current limitation; a fast drive does not replace a backup plan.

Consider it when

  • A supported NVMe desktop with a defined 1 TB storage requirement.

Look again when

  • Your current library already occupies most of a 1 TB drive.

The checks that can change your choice

Match the bare-drive model and the intended slot

MZ-V9P1T0BW is recorded as an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 drive, measuring 80 × 22 × 2.3 mm. Check the motherboard’s NVMe support, link width and heatsink arrangement; the presence of an M.2 connector alone does not establish all three.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.
