Kingston NV3 1TB (2280)

A general desktop capacity choice, not a substitute for workload evidence

The decision

The NV3 1TB is a comparison point for an ordinary desktop that needs more room than a small boot SSD provides. Select it by the exact capacity, form factor and support terms rather than expecting every NV3 size to behave identically. For large repeated writes or professional working storage, check workload-relevant evidence instead of using the Gen4 label as a complete performance assessment.

Consider it when

  • A supported desktop NVMe installation whose files fit within a planned 1 TB budget.

Look again when

  • The machine needs a 2230 drive or the task has a demanding sustained-write requirement.

The checks that can change your choice

Use the 1 TB 2280 row of the specification

SNV3S/1000G is the 80 mm-long model, distinct from the short SNV3SM3 version. Kingston lists capacity-specific performance and endurance, so the top family headline is not automatically the 1 TB specification. Check the motherboard slot protocol and any shared-lane restrictions before installation.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.

Published specifications

1 TB; M.2 2280; PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe; without an integrated heatsink; SNV3S/1000G.

Capacity is manufacturer decimal capacity. Check the exact SKU, M.2 slot protocol, lane sharing and cooling requirements; regional availability is not guaranteed. This is the SNV3S M.2 2280 version, not the shorter SNV3SM3 M.2 2230 version.
