Kingston NV3 500GB (2280)
An entry NVMe drive whose small capacity needs an honest plan
The NV3 500GB is worth considering for a modest desktop boot installation or a limited application set. Its Gen4 interface does not remove the practical constraint of 500 GB. If it will be the only drive, count the operating system, application updates and expected library growth before choosing it; moving to 1 TB now may avoid replacing the drive later.
Consider it when
- A small desktop storage requirement with a verified 2280 NVMe socket.
Look again when
- The system needs a large game library, sustained workstation storage or a shorter handheld SSD.
The checks that can change your choice
SNV3S is the long desktop-style form factor
SNV3S/500G identifies the 2280 version; the SNV3SM3 family is 2230 and physically different. Kingston’s datasheet also gives different performance and endurance figures by capacity, so do not apply the 1 TB or 2 TB headline to the 500 GB model.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Plan migration and recovery
Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.

Capacity is manufacturer decimal capacity. Check the exact SKU, M.2 slot protocol, lane sharing and cooling requirements; regional availability is not guaranteed. This is the SNV3S M.2 2280 version, not the shorter SNV3SM3 M.2 2230 version.
