Samsung 980 1TB

A straightforward NVMe capacity step for a Gen3-era system

The decision

The 980 1TB is a reasonable comparison for an older system with a suitable NVMe connection or a modest desktop where capacity matters more than a newer interface generation. It doubles the space of the 500 GB option without changing the installation format. Compare newer 1 TB and 2 TB drives at actual delivered prices; the catalog does not establish that older stock is cheaper.

Consider it when

  • A supported Gen3 NVMe desktop whose working files fit comfortably within 1 TB.

Look again when

  • The machine only supports SATA M.2 or your storage growth already calls for 2 TB.

The checks that can change your choice

Confirm MZ-V8V1T0BW and PCIe NVMe support

This is the non-PRO 980 with an M.2 2280 body and PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe interface. A physically fitting SATA-only M.2 socket will not provide the required protocol. Check lane sharing before moving an existing drive or installing the replacement.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.

Published specifications

1 TB; M.2 2280; PCIe 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.4; without an integrated heatsink; MZ-V8V1T0BW.
