ASRock B550M Pro4
The B550M Pro4 is useful to examine when an AM4 CPU and DDR4 are worth keeping. Its two storage sockets do different jobs, and the installed BIOS matters as much as the socket name.
Map your retained CPU, drives and connections onto this board before buying it. The compact board size can help a rebuild, but it does not remove BIOS or storage-sharing checks.
Consider it when
- You are retaining a supported AM4 CPU and DDR4 and need a micro-ATX replacement board.
- Your drive layout fits the two M.2 sockets and remaining SATA ports after checking their sharing rules.
Look again when
- You are buying a 7600, 9600X or 9800X3D. Those AM5 processors require a different motherboard and DDR5.
- You need both M.2 sockets to behave like a full-speed PCIe 4.0 connection, or need all six SATA ports alongside M2_2.
The checks that can change your choice
Match the exact CPU and BIOS
The 5600GT support entry lists P3.20 for this board. Ask which BIOS is installed and arrange a supported update route if necessary. Do not substitute the B550 Pro4 or another similarly named board in this check.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Place the first NVMe drive deliberately
M2_1 supports a 2280 PCIe drive with CPU-dependent link speed. ASRock lists Gen4 x4 with Vermeer/Matisse and Gen3 x4 with Cezanne/Renoir/Picasso. The 5600GT is Cezanne, so it changes the relevant connection.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Avoid a disappearing SATA drive
M2_2 supports SATA or PCIe Gen3 x2 storage and shares lanes with SATA3_5 and SATA3_6. Using either side disables the other. Write down occupied ports before adding a second M.2 drive, then move any affected SATA connection to an available port.
Check the manufacturer document ↗Published specifications

Check the manufacturer CPU support list and installed BIOS version before buying. Matching socket and DDR generation do not prove CPU support, memory-profile stability, power-delivery suitability, or PCIe/M.2 lane availability.
