ASUS ROG STRIX Z890-I GAMING WIFI
Small Intel workstation, with a deliberate SSD-versus-GPU lane tradeoff
The ROG STRIX Z890-I GAMING WIFI fits LGA1851 and dual Thunderbolt 4 into Mini-ITX. It is a compelling layout when small size is part of the requirement, but fewer expansion positions make the initial storage and memory choices more consequential. Choose it after establishing the case, cooling and GPU arrangement, not merely because the feature list resembles a larger board.
Consider it when
- A compact Core Ultra desktop with two-DIMM memory and a carefully mapped storage layout.
Look again when
- The workload needs the full graphics link while also using both onboard Gen5 SSDs.
The checks that can change your choice
The second Gen5 SSD changes the GPU link
Populating M.2_2 reduces the PCIe 5.0 graphics slot to x8 according to the recorded specification. This is a connection tradeoff, not a measured frame-rate prediction. Both SSD sockets accept several lengths, so verify the chosen drive and heatsink against the compact board assembly.
Prove the complete platform
Find the exact processor in this board’s CPU support list and compare its required BIOS with the installed version. Then check the exact memory kit, occupied slots and front-panel connectors. A matching socket or a published maximum memory capacity is only part of that check.

Check the manufacturer CPU support list and installed BIOS version before buying. Matching socket and DDR generation do not prove CPU support, memory-profile stability, power-delivery suitability, or PCIe/M.2 lane availability.
