MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK
AM4 with two network ports, provided the slot plan works
The MAG B550 TOMAHAWK is worth examining when the build benefits from its separate 2.5 Gb and 1 Gb Ethernet interfaces or retains an AM4 processor and DDR4. Dual networking is a specific feature, not an automatic gaming advantage. If those connections will sit unused, compare a simpler B550 board and direct the difference toward storage or memory capacity.
Consider it when
- An AM4 machine whose wired network or drive arrangement needs this exact layout.
Look again when
- You are buying a fresh platform with no reason to retain AM4.
The checks that can change your choice
Three populated positions change two links
The recorded specification says that populating M2_2, PCI_E2 and PCI_E3 together disables PCI_E3 and reduces M2_2 to x2. Check the manual’s complete sharing table, especially before adding a network or capture card beside a second SSD.
Prove the complete platform
Find the exact processor in this board’s CPU support list and compare its required BIOS with the installed version. Then check the exact memory kit, occupied slots and front-panel connectors. A matching socket or a published maximum memory capacity is only part of that check.
Published specifications

| Storage slot M2_2 | M.2 2242, M.2 2260, M.2 2280; PCIe NVMe; PCIe 3 x4; When M2_2, PCI_E2 and PCI_E3 are populated together, PCI_E3 is disabled and this slot runs x2. |
Check the manufacturer CPU support list and installed BIOS version before buying. Matching socket and DDR generation do not prove CPU support, memory-profile stability, power-delivery suitability, or PCIe/M.2 lane availability.
