Audio-Technica ATH-M50x

The wired M50x for a separate headphone-and-microphone setup, not the Bluetooth edition.

The decision

ATH-M50x offers a closed-back analog listening arrangement with detachable cables. Choose it when that connection and form suit the desk, then check comfort and listening level with your actual source. A larger driver or different impedance than the M40x does not by itself establish better sound for your needs.

Consider it when

  • A suitable 3.5 mm headphone output or audio interface.
  • A user who wants to keep microphone choice separate from listening equipment.

Look again when

  • Expecting Bluetooth from the standard M50x name.
  • A voice-chat plan that assumes the supplied stereo cable includes a microphone.

The checks that can change your choice

Distinguish M50x, BT2 and STS

This entry is the standard wired ATH-M50x. Wireless and headset-oriented variants have different connections and functions; match the complete model before choosing it for a phone, USB-only computer or calling setup.

Select a useful cable route

Use a supplied cable appropriate to the desk and connect to a headphone-capable output. The 38-ohm rating and included 6.3 mm adapter do not guarantee any particular volume or quality from an unknown source.

Published specifications

Closed-back wired headphones; 45 mm drivers; 38-ohm impedance; detachable 3.5 mm stereo cables; 6.3 mm adapter included.

Standard wired ATH-M50x, not ATH-M50xBT2 or ATH-M50xSTS. The supplied stereo cables do not provide a headset microphone; voice chat needs a separate microphone. USB-only hosts need an appropriate audio adapter.
