Samsung 870 EVO 2TB (MZ-77E2T0B/AM)

More SATA SSD space without consuming an M.2 socket

The decision

The 870 EVO 2TB can expand a desktop through a spare SATA bay while leaving an NVMe socket available for another purpose. It also suits a supported SATA-only system that needs a larger solid-state drive. Choose it because the connection and capacity fit the machine, not because SATA and NVMe capacities with the same number are equivalent in every workload.

Consider it when

  • A SATA-compatible computer needing a 2 TB solid-state library or replacement drive.

Look again when

  • The main task needs NVMe transfer bandwidth or a supported free M.2 slot offers a better complete option.

The checks that can change your choice

Check the remaining SATA path after other upgrades

MZ-77E2T0B/AM needs a 2.5-inch mounting point plus separate SATA data and power. Some motherboard M.2 configurations disable particular SATA ports. Confirm the chosen port stays available and the cable reaches without interfering with the drive cage, front radiator or PSU leads.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.

Published specifications

2 TB SATA 6 Gb/s SSD; 2.5-inch; up to 560/530 MB/s sequential read/write; 100 × 69.85 × 6.8 mm.
