Edifier MR4 (original powered pair)
An analog powered pair for a desk with room for two properly placed speakers.
The original MR4 is worth considering when you want an analog connection from a PC or audio interface and can place two speakers around the listening position. The monitor-speaker description does not prove accuracy in your room. Placement, desk reflections and the source still need attention, especially if the speakers are part of editing or recording work.
Consider it when
- A PC with analog output or an interface with suitable balanced outputs.
- A fixed desk with space for the powered and passive speaker and their connecting cable.
Look again when
- A requirement for Bluetooth or direct USB audio.
- Assuming the original MR4 has the features of MR4 MKII.
The checks that can change your choice
Balanced TRS requires a balanced source
The 6.35 mm inputs can accept a suitable balanced signal. A connector adapter does not turn an ordinary PC headphone output into a balanced output; use AUX or an appropriate RCA route for that source.
Connect both speakers and mains power
The passive speaker needs its link to the active unit, and the system needs an electrical outlet. Plan both cable runs and keep the front volume and headphone control accessible after placing the pair.
