Samsung 980 PRO 1TB

An older Gen4 drive to assess by condition, capacity and exact identity

The decision

The 980 PRO 1TB remains a useful reference when it is already installed or available as clearly identified stock. It is not the non-PRO 980, and its Gen4 interface should not be inferred for that other family. For a new purchase, compare capacity, support, condition and total cost with a 990 PRO or T500 rather than assuming an older premium label is automatically the best value.

Consider it when

  • Keeping a known 1 TB Gen4 NVMe drive in service or evaluating exact-model replacement stock.

Look again when

  • The listing mixes 980 and 980 PRO identities or omits the physical variant.

The checks that can change your choice

Verify dimensions and firmware for the actual unit

This catalog entry establishes PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe and the M.2 family, but does not supply a complete exact-SKU dimensional record. Check the unit label and manufacturer installation guidance before using an automatic physical-fit assumption, and review firmware through Samsung’s supported tooling.

Plan migration and recovery

Keep a separate verified backup before cloning, formatting or changing a boot drive. Check the firmware and installation guidance for the exact model. Published capacity uses decimal units; formatting, the operating system and your applications leave less space available for files.

Published specifications

1 TB internal NVMe SSD; PCIe 4.0 x4; NVMe 1.3c; M.2 form factor.
